// ABSTRACT — DEPLOYMENT BASELINE

This protocol addresses domestic sewage treatment for luxury eco-resorts, coastal estates, and premium worker camps where aesthetic integration is paramount. Traditional Conventional Activated Sludge (CAS) plants require massive open-air concrete clarifiers, generating severe odor, insect proliferation, and unacceptable acoustic pollution.

The WANDONG ENVIRO solution replaces gravity settling with an absolute physical barrier: 0.1μm Submerged Membrane Bioreactors (MBR). By operating at extreme Mixed Liquor Suspended Solids (MLSS) concentrations, we shrink the biological footprint by 50%, allowing the entire plant to be packaged into sealed, anti-corrosive FRP tanks buried completely underground. The result is zero visual impact, zero odor, and crystal-clear effluent ready for unrestricted irrigation.

For a luxury resort, land is the most expensive asset. Wasting premium coastal real estate on a sprawling, foul-smelling sewage plant destroys ROI. 02 — Hardware & Operational Specs

03 — High-MLSS Biological Process

The secret to the MBR's compact footprint is its biology. In a traditional plant, bacteria (sludge) must be kept at a low concentration (~3,000 mg/L) so it can settle by gravity in the clarifier. If the concentration gets too high, the sludge won't settle, and it washes out with the effluent.

Because our MBR uses a 0.1μm physical membrane barrier to separate water from sludge, we don't rely on gravity. This allows us to operate the aerobic reactor at extreme Mixed Liquor Suspended Solids (MLSS) concentrations of 8,000 to 12,000 mg/L.

Triple the bacteria, one-third the space. By maintaining a massive population of hungry bacteria in a small tank, the MBR digests organic matter (BOD/COD) and ammonia much faster and more thoroughly than conventional systems. This high sludge age also means the bacteria cannibalize themselves, drastically reducing the volume of waste sludge you have to pump out and haul away.

04 — Odor & Acoustic Control (The Resort Standard)

Aesthetics mean nothing if the plant smells or whines. WANDONG ENVIRO engineers specific countermeasures to guarantee absolute environmental integration.

  • Active Carbon Exhaust: Because the FRP tanks are fully sealed underground, displaced air cannot escape freely. We route all tank exhaust through a dedicated active carbon filtration unit mounted above ground (often disguised as a utility box or landscaping feature), stripping 100% of H₂S and ammonia odors.
  • Submerged Aeration: We utilize ultra-fine bubble UPVC diffusers at the bottom of the tank. The deep water column absorbs the sound of the bubbling.
  • Acoustic Blower Enclosures: The only moving parts above ground are the aeration blowers and suction pumps. We house these in a weather-proof, acoustic-dampened control kiosk, dropping operational noise to < 55 dB(A).

05 — Engineering Blueprint (P&ID)

The standard WANDONG Packaged MBR utilizes an A/O (Anoxic/Aerobic) configuration to ensure complete Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR), specifically targeting total nitrogen and ammonia.

Step 1: Equalization & Fine Screening. Raw sewage passes through a 1-2mm mechanical fine screen to remove hair, plastics, and debris that could wrap around the MBR fibers. It then enters an Equalization (EQ) tank to absorb peak flow shocks (e.g., morning shower hours at the resort).

Step 2: Anoxic Zone (Denitrification). Sewage is pumped into the oxygen-depleted Anoxic tank. Here, heterotrophic bacteria strip oxygen from nitrate (NO3-), converting it into harmless nitrogen gas (N2) which vents to the atmosphere.

Step 3: Aerobic MBR Zone (Nitrification & Filtration). The water flows into the heavily aerated MBR tank. Aerobic bacteria digest organics (BOD/COD) and convert toxic ammonia into nitrate. Submerged directly in this thick sludge are the PVDF flat sheet or hollow fiber MBR cassettes.

Step 4: Permeate Extraction & Disinfection. A self-priming suction pump creates a gentle vacuum, drawing pure water through the 0.1μm membrane pores while leaving 100% of the bacteria behind. The crystal-clear effluent passes through a UV sterilizer or chlorine dosing station before being sent to the irrigation holding tank.

06 — Limits & Guarantees

THE FOG TRAP (Fats, Oils, Grease): Resort kitchens produce massive amounts of grease. If FOG exceeds 50 mg/L entering the MBR, it will coat the membrane fibers in a waterproof layer, permanently blinding the pores and suffocating the bacteria. A properly sized grease trap or Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) unit upstream of the EQ tank is absolutely non-negotiable for resort applications.

07 — Intelligent O&M (Anti-Fouling)

MBR membranes sit directly in thick sludge. To prevent them from clogging, the Siemens PLC executes dynamic anti-fouling protocols without human intervention.

  • Continuous Air Scouring: The aeration blowers serve two purposes: providing oxygen to the bacteria, and constantly blowing coarse bubbles up through the membrane cassettes. This physical shaking scrubs the sludge off the membrane surface.
  • Relaxation Cycles: The suction pump does not run continuously. The PLC runs it on a cycle (e.g., 8 minutes ON, 2 minutes OFF). During the "OFF" phase, the membrane relaxes, and the air scouring clears the pores.
  • Automated Maintenance Cleaning (MC): Once a week, the PLC automatically reverses the flow, injecting a mild dose of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) backward through the membrane pores to dissolve any developing bio-film.

08 — Hardcore FAQ

For remote resorts with limited maintenance staff, we strongly recommend Flat Sheet (FS) membranes (e.g., Kubota style). They tolerate higher MLSS, are much harder to clog with hair/debris, and only require air scouring for maintenance. Hollow Fiber (HF) membranes pack more surface area into a smaller space (cheaper CapEx), but they are prone to fiber breakage and "sludging up" if the fine screen fails, requiring complex backwashing pumps.
During initial commissioning, biological cultivation (growing the MLSS) takes 2 to 4 weeks depending on the ambient temperature and the strength of the incoming sewage. To accelerate this, we often "seed" the tank with activated sludge trucked in from a local municipal plant, cutting stabilization time down to a few days.
Because MBRs operate at a very high sludge age (SRT of 20-30 days), the bacteria digest a large portion of their own mass. You typically only need to hire a vacuum truck to waste sludge from the holding tank every 3 to 6 months, compared to monthly for conventional systems. For larger resorts, we can integrate a Sludge Screw Press to dewater the sludge on-site into dry cakes.
Yes. The Equalization (EQ) tank acts as a buffer for daily peaks. For extreme seasonal variations (e.g., resort at 10% capacity in winter), the PLC can be programmed to enter "Sleep Mode," reducing blower frequency to keep the bacteria alive with minimal energy consumption until flows return.
Power outages stop the aeration blowers, which means the bacteria will slowly lose oxygen. However, our MBR tanks are designed with a passive gravity overflow bypass. If power is lost and the EQ tank fills up, the raw sewage will safely bypass the membrane chamber to prevent flooding the control room. Once power is restored, the Siemens PLC initiates an automatic recovery sequence to re-aerate the sludge before restarting the suction pumps.
Absolutely. The 0.1μm membrane pores physically block 99.99% of bacteria and suspended solids. When paired with a basic UV sterilizer, the effluent strictly complies with US EPA Class A Water Reuse Standards. You can safely use it for unrestricted spray irrigation on resort lawns, golf courses, and decorative fountains without any health risks or odors.
