How the Industrial Softening & Filtration Process Works (Engineering Details)

Step 1: Multi-Media & Iron Removal Filtration. Feed water is first pumped through an FRP Pressure Vessel containing a Multi-Media Filter (MMF) bed of quartz sand and anthracite to remove suspended solids (TSS). If the water contains high iron or manganese, Birm or Manganese Greensand catalytic media is used to oxidize and trap the metals, preventing them from fouling downstream equipment.

Step 2: Active Carbon Adsorption. The water then flows through an Active Carbon Filter (ACF). This critical industrial water pre-treatment stage adsorbs organic compounds and eliminates free chlorine, which is absolutely necessary before the water enters any polyamide RO membrane systems.

Step 3: Ion Exchange Softening. To prevent scale buildup in boilers or RO membranes, the water enters a vessel filled with 001x7 strong acid cation exchange resin. During this skid-mounted water softening process, calcium (Ca2+) and magnesium (Mg2+) ions are exchanged for sodium (Na+) ions, effectively reducing total hardness to < 0.03 mmol/L.

Step 4: Automated Backwash & Brine Draw. Utilizing world-class Fleck or Runxin automatic control valves, the turnkey filtration plant automatically initiates backwash cycles for the sand/carbon filters, and brine draw (NaCl) regeneration cycles for the softeners based on the exact Ion Exchange Capacity (eq). In Duplex configurations, one tank remains online while the other regenerates, guaranteeing 24/7 uninterrupted soft water supply.

Our standard Birm media skids can handle Iron up to 5 ppm without chemicals. For extreme groundwater (Fe > 5 ppm up to 15 ppm), we integrate Manganese Greensand media coupled with a pre-aeration tower or continuous chlorine dosing to fully oxidize and trap the heavy metals.
You don't need to guess. We utilize Flow-Metered automatic control valves. Based on your raw water hardness and tank resin volume, the valve calculates the exact capacity. Once that volume of water has passed, it automatically draws brine from the salt tank to regenerate the resin.
A Simplex (single tank) system stops producing soft water during its 2-hour regeneration cycle. For industrial boilers or continuous RO plants that require 24/7 soft water, a Duplex Alternating system (1 Duty + 1 Standby) ensures one tank is always online producing water while the other regenerates.
Absolutely not. Shipping loaded tanks risks cracking the FRP vessels under ocean turbulence and vastly increases freight costs. The skid and empty tanks are shipped assembled, while the quartz sand, carbon, and resin are shipped in sealed 25kg bags to be easily loaded on-site.
We provide a comprehensive 12-month mechanical warranty covering all feed pumps, automatic control valves (Fleck/Runxin), and UPVC piping manifolds against manufacturing defects.
Zero civil work is required. The system is 100% pre-plumbed on an epoxy-coated carbon steel skid. You simply place it on a flat concrete floor, use a local plumber to connect the main inlet, outlet, and drain pipes, and plug it in.
For extremely hard groundwater (often found in mining or Middle East regions), a standard single-pass softener will exhaust too quickly. In these cases, WANDONG ENVIRO engineers a Two-Stage Series Softening System (Primary + Polishing) to guarantee the effluent strictly meets the < 0.03 mmol/L boiler standard without excessive salt waste.
