Step 1: Mechanical Screening & Equalization. Raw domestic or medical sewage enters through a fine bar screen (1-2mm) to remove hair, plastics, and debris. The wastewater is temporarily held in an Equalization (EQ) tank to absorb peak flow shocks, a critical step for any containerized sewage treatment plant.
Step 2: Biological Denitrification (Anoxic Zone). The sewage is pumped into the Anoxic tank where oxygen is depleted. Here, specific heterotrophic bacteria utilize the organic carbon in the wastewater to strip oxygen from nitrate (NO3-), converting it into harmless nitrogen gas (N2). This process is essential for meeting strict biological nutrient removal (BNR) standards.
Step 3: Nitrification & Membrane Filtration (Aerobic Zone). The water flows into the heavily aerated MBR tank, which maintains a massive Mixed Liquor Suspended Solids (MLSS) concentration of 8,000 to 12,000 mg/L. Aerobic bacteria digest the remaining organics and convert ammonia to nitrate. Submerged directly within this sludge are the Kubota or Toray flat sheet MBR cassettes. A slight vacuum draws clear water through the 0.1μm pores, leaving 100% of the sludge and bacteria behind.
Step 4: Permeate Extraction & Disinfection. The highly purified permeate is extracted by suction pumps. Because the MBR membrane acts as an absolute physical barrier against pathogens, the effluent only requires a final UV polish or light chlorination before it is discharged or directly reused for unrestricted urban irrigation.
