A-Stage (Anoxic Zone)

Oxygen is depleted here. Heterotrophic bacteria strip oxygen from nitrate (NO3-), converting it into harmless nitrogen gas (N2), effectively removing Total Nitrogen (TN) from the sewage.

O-Stage (Aerobic Zone)

Heavy aeration provides oxygen for aerobic bacteria to digest organics (BOD/COD) and convert toxic ammonia (NH3) into nitrate, which is then recirculated back to the Anoxic zone.

Clarifier (Settling Zone)

Instead of membranes, gravity does the work. The biological sludge settles to the bottom hopper (to be returned or wasted), while the clear supernatant overflows the weirs for disinfection.

How the AO/A2O Biological Process Works (Engineering Details)

Step 1: Anaerobic Tank (A2O Only). Raw sewage mixed with return sludge enters the anaerobic zone. In the absence of oxygen and nitrate, Phosphorus Accumulating Organisms (PAOs) release phosphorus into the water. This biological nutrient removal (BNR) step is critical for preventing downstream eutrophication when discharging into natural water bodies. Optimized Hydraulic Retention Time (HRT) ensures maximum phosphorus release.

Step 2: Anoxic Denitrification. The water then flows into the Anoxic tank, mixed with an internal recycle stream from the aerobic tank. Here, heterotrophic bacteria utilize organic carbon to strip oxygen from nitrate (NO3-), converting it to harmless nitrogen gas (N2), effectively reducing Total Nitrogen (TN).

Step 3: Aerobic Nitrification (Oxic Zone). Powered by heavy-duty roots blowers and fine bubble diffusers, oxygen is heavily introduced into the activated sludge bioreactor. Autotrophic bacteria consume the BOD/COD and convert ammonia (NH3) into nitrate. Simultaneously, PAOs uptake excess phosphorus from the water into their cellular mass.

Step 4: Clarifier Settling & Disinfection. Unlike MBRs that use membranes, this packaged conventional sewage treatment plant utilizes a gravity clarifier. Engineered with a conservative surface overflow rate to prevent sludge bulking, the biological sludge settles to the bottom (to be returned as RAS or wasted), while the clear supernatant overflows the weirs. A final dosage of Sodium Hypochlorite ensures the effluent is free of pathogens and safe for discharge.

AO is significantly cheaper and has zero membrane replacement costs, making it ideal for standard municipal discharge or remote camps. MBR is chosen only when footprint is extremely limited or unrestricted reuse water (like golf course irrigation) is strictly required.
Unlike open concrete municipal ponds, our packaged tanks are fully enclosed. For sensitive areas, we route the exhaust air through an integrated Active Carbon scrubber, ensuring absolutely zero odor escape.
Seeding the tanks with local activated sludge typically takes 2-4 weeks to reach the target 3,000 mg/L MLSS concentration. We provide a complete biological acclimatization manual and remote video guidance to ensure a successful startup.
Excess sludge must be periodically pumped out from the holding tank by local vacuum trucks. Alternatively, we can supply an integrated Sludge Screw Press skid for automated, continuous sludge dewatering.
We provide a comprehensive 12-month mechanical warranty on all blowers, pumps, and PLC hardware, along with a 10-year anti-corrosion guarantee on the epoxy-coated carbon steel or FRP tanks.
For our containerized units, zero civil engineering is required. You simply pour a flat concrete slab, drop the container into place, and connect the main inlet, outlet, and power supply. For underground FRP models, simple excavation is required.
