How the Seawater Desalination Process Works (Engineering Details)

Step 1: Raw Water Pre-treatment Skid. The process begins by pumping seawater into the multi-media or Ultrafiltration (UF) skid. This critical seawater desalination pre-treatment stage reduces the Silt Density Index (SDI < 3) and eliminates marine bio-fouling risks to protect the polyamide membrane from irreversible oxidation.

Step 2: Chemical Dosing & ERD Integration. To prevent inorganic scaling within the pressure vessels, a highly calibrated Antiscalant dosing pump injects precise chemicals. An integrated CIP (Clean-in-Place) system is standard to ensure long-term membrane vitality. Simultaneously, the brine pressure is captured by an Isobaric Energy Recovery Device (ERI™ ERD), which reduces overall power consumption to < 3.0 kWh/m³.

Step 3: High-Pressure Separation (SWRO Stack). Powered by premium Duplex stainless steel pumps, the pre-treated seawater is forced through the containerized SWRO membrane elements at pressures up to 60-80 bar. The semi-permeable membranes achieve a salt rejection rate of >99.8%, separating the permeate (fresh water) from the brine (concentrate).

Step 4: Post-Treatment (Remineralization). The pure permeate passes through a calcite filter to add essential minerals back into the water, adjusting the pH and ensuring the turnkey SWRO desalination plant delivers water that strictly complies with WHO drinking water standards.

Yes. While a single-pass SWRO can achieve high salt rejection, removing Boron to < 0.5 mg/L often requires a Double-Pass configuration. We utilize high-rejection SWRO membranes in Pass 1, followed by interstage pH adjustment (NaOH dosing to pH ~10) to ionize the Boron, which is then easily rejected by the Pass 2 BWRO membranes.
