Process Engineer's Note: Flux vs. TMP Dynamics

While our 80-inch modules (WD-UF-2880) provide 50% more active area than the 60-inch versions, operating them at the absolute maximum flux (100 LMH) in high-turbidity water will exponentially increase Transmembrane Pressure (TMP). We recommend a conservative design flux of 50-60 LMH to maximize the lifespan of the PVDF fibers and reduce CEB frequency.

// MODULE-04 / MECHANICAL COMPATIBILITY

Zero Pipe Cutting.

Replacing UF modules shouldn't require a plumbing crew. WANDONG OEM modules are engineered with exact Victaulic® grooved connections and identical center-to-center dimensions. Unclamp the old DuPont/SUEZ module, slide ours in, and clamp it down. Done.

// MODULE-05 / ENGINEERING ANATOMY

Deconstructing the TIPS PVDF Core.

Fiber breakage is the #1 cause of RO failure. Explore the high-tensile architecture designed to withstand aggressive air scouring and chemical cleaning without snapping.

3D Cross-Section of TIPS PVDF Hollow Fibers and Epoxy Potting
Hollow Fiber Architecture

1. TIPS PVDF Hollow Fibers

Manufactured using Thermally Induced Phase Separation (TIPS). This creates a highly crystalline, sponge-like structure with a massive tensile strength. Unlike cheap NIPS fibers, our fibers will not stretch or break under severe backwashing pressure.

2. Outside-In Flow Configuration

Raw water flows from the outside of the fiber to the inside. This provides a significantly higher tolerance for suspended solids (up to 300 mg/L) compared to Inside-Out designs, preventing the fiber lumens from plugging.

3. Air Scour Capability

The Outside-In design allows for vigorous air scouring from the bottom of the module. Bubbles physically scrub the outside of the fibers, easily dislodging accumulated sludge and restoring flux without harsh chemicals.

4. Epoxy Resin Potting

The thousands of fiber ends are cast in a proprietary, high-density Epoxy/PU resin block. This ensures absolute separation between the raw water and filtrate zones, guaranteeing zero bypass of bacteria or pathogens.

// MODULE-06 / OPERATING LIMITS

Comprehensive Operating Limits.

Strict adherence to these parameters ensures optimal performance and validates the 12-month limited warranty.

Max Chlorine Exposure (NaOCl) 5,000 ppm (for CIP)

Filtrate Quality Guarantee

  • SDI: ≤ 2.5 (Provides maximum protection for downstream RO).
  • Pathogens: > 4-log removal of bacteria, viruses, and Cryptosporidium.

System Startup Protocol

Avoid abrupt pressure variations during start-up to prevent fiber damage.

  • 1. Preservative Flush: Flush the module to remove shipping solution (Glycerin/SMBS) prior to start-up.
  • 2. Air Purge: Remove residual air from the system via top vents prior to applying feed pressure.
  • 3. Pressure Ramp: Max pressure change allowable is 0.5 bar/sec.

// MODULE-15 / TECHNICAL FAQ & WARRANTY

Hardcore FAQ.
Engineering-Grade Answers.

Why choose Outside-In over Inside-Out filtration?
Solids Tolerance and Cleanability.

In Inside-Out modules, dirty water flows through the tiny inner lumen of the fiber. If a large particle enters, it permanently plugs the fiber.

Our Outside-In configuration allows dirty water to flow on the outside of the fibers. This provides a massive surface area for high suspended solids (up to 300 mg/L) and allows us to use vigorous Air Scouring from the bottom to shake off the sludge during backwashing.
Are your modules compatible with my existing DuPont/Dow rack?
Yes. Our WD-UF-2880 and WD-UF-2860 modules are engineered with the exact same dimensions, port center distances, and 2-inch Victaulic® grooved connections as the DuPont™ IntegraTec™ (formerly Dow™ SFP) series. You can replace them 1-for-1 without cutting any PVC header pipes.
What is TIPS PVDF and why does it matter?
TIPS stands for Thermally Induced Phase Separation. Compared to cheaper NIPS (Non-solvent Induced Phase Separation) or PVC fibers, TIPS PVDF creates a highly crystalline structure. This means the fiber has immense tensile strength (it won't break during air scouring) and extreme chemical resistance (it can tolerate 5,000 ppm of Chlorine during CIP).
What is your warranty policy?
We provide a strict 12-Month Limited Warranty against manufacturing defects (such as potting resin failure or fiber detachment). The warranty is voided if failure is caused by exceeding the maximum TMP (2.1 bar), exceeding the maximum chlorine exposure limit, or failing to implement proper pre-screening (e.g., missing a 300µm auto-strainer).
How often should we perform CEB (Chemically Enhanced Backwash)?
Standard air-scour backwashing should occur every 30-60 minutes. However, CEB (using NaOCl or Citric Acid) is typically required every 24 to 72 hours depending on the feed water's organic and inorganic load. Our engineers will provide the exact PLC timing matrix based on your raw water report.
How do you guarantee there are no broken fibers before shipping?
Every single WANDONG UF module undergoes a rigorous Pressure Decay Test (Integrity Test) at our ISO 9001 facility before packaging. We pressurize the module with air and monitor the decay rate to ensure 100% of the thousands of hollow fibers are perfectly intact. The hardcopy test certificate is included in every crate.
